The rights to curriculum and other required learning material in the form of book excerpt must be cleared in BOLK when it is copied and made available to students. BOLK is primarily a rights clearance system, but in most cases BOLK will also deliver a file of the cleared book excerpt.

From autumn 2023, book excerpts that are copied and made available to students can be BOLK cleared in Leganto.
PS! Note that if the University Library has purchased access to the e-book, you do not need to BOLK-clear the reference.

To make a BOLK requests in Leganto, the following criteria’s must be in order:

The reading list must be associated with only one course code. If the reading list is associated with several courses, you’ll get an error message when trying to clear rights in Leganto. Read more about how to manage course association here.
The citation must have a correct ISBN number for it to be cleared in Bolk. Read more about how to edit a citation here.
As a course coordinator, you have to be registered in BOLK with a user account. Read more about BOLK and how to be registered here. 6. If the request is rejected by BOLK, e.g. if the total page range of the requested material is more than 15% of the whole book, an Extended Right Clearance button will appear with a price tag per page information. When selected, the request is submitted to BOLK for further processing.

If a request for BOLK clearance is rejected, e.g. if the total number of pages is more than 15% of the book, an Extend rights clearance button will appear (see image below). If you choose to proceed with extended rights clearance, the request will be sent to BOLK for further processing.

After extended processing has been carried out, you will receive feedback and information about what the price per page per student will be, you can then choose to accept or reject the offer (see previous step).

In the menu that appears on the right-hand side, click Review and finalize in Bolk.

You will then be taken directly to the BOLK website. You may need to log in the first time. In some browsers, you may be taken to the BOLK home page instead of directly to your course reader. If this happens, click Review and complete in Bolk again after logging in.

Then follow the steps in the final section (step 6) of the module How to register clearance of book extracts in BOLK. Make sure that Separate excerpt files is selected rather than Single coursepack file, so that any files for the individual extracts are uploaded to the correct reference.

For references where a file is not available directly from BOLK, you can mark them with the Digitization Request tag. The library will scan these extracts and upload them to the reading list when we process the list after the deadline.

Potential problems, and solutions

Missing ISBN

If the book is missing an ISBN, then the "Bolk request"-button will be greyed out:

Edit the book, as shown in this module, and add in the correct ISBN. It could be that you have to refresh the page to be able to click on the "Bolk request"-button afterwards.

Not associated with a course

If the reading list is not associated with a course,

then the "Bolk request"-button will be greyed out:

This module shows how you can associate the course with the reading list. It's possible that you have to refresh the page to be able to see the "Bolk request"-button afterwards.

Missing BOLK-access

If you do not have BOLK-access, this message will appear:

"A Bolk request cannot be created because there is no Feide ID registered in Bolk for your user. Please contact your administrator.”"

Please contact us at the library, so that we can create a BOLK-account for you. You can find the correct person to contact on our webpages for BOLK.

BOLK-requests after a list has been published

If the reading list has been sent in for Library Review and published with BOLK-requests, it is no longer possible to change any current requests or add new ones. If you wish to change or add requests after publication this must be done on BOLKs own webpages. You can then create a new Coursepack for the course in question, and add the new books and/or page ranges for existing books.
